Web 2.0 and Article Marketing

You probably use Twitter and you've surely heard about sites like Stumble Upon or Digg. They all form the Web 2.0. So what does this term describe more exactly? It's social networking. The idea is quite simple, but it produces spectacular results.

If you want to save or bookmark a site you've found and liked, you no longer have to save it on your computer. By using a Web 2.0 site you bookmark it online and you can check it again any time you want. But the real ideas behind social bookmarking is the fact that you not only bookmark the resource for yourself, you also share it with the world. All the people which are in your friend list and even the ones who aren't can see what you like and they might like it as well and bookmark it as well.

OK, so web 2.0 and social bookmarking are great and they seem to be very useful to the user, but how is this all useful for you as a web developer? Just think about all the potential you can unleash. If you are able to produce some really interesting content it is enough to get noticed by just a few people and they will pass the content on to the rest of the world as more and more people will share your link.

The idea is quite simple - you just need to create something so interesting that it will make people share the link and re-share and so on. Imagine that you create something so viral, that when you give it to 10 people they all share it with other 10 people and that people also share it with another 10. In just 3 steps with almost no effort on your side you obtain 10 + 10*10 + 10*10*10 visitors - that is over 1,000 visitors in 3 steps. If you were to create something even more viral you would easily obtain 1,000,000 visitors in 6 steps and so on. Just look at all the viral YouTube videos. The ones which are really catchy easily receive 1,000,000 views. This aspect of the Web 2.0 is the exponential propagation. With an impulse of just 10 people you can create an avalanche of thousands or even millions.

Now, if you were to write an article and post the link to your website in that article, you would be doing article marketing. Many people provide useful content just to get that link down there. People read your article and some of them go to your site once they're done.

Combine article marketing and the power of Web 2.0 and the results you will obtain are literally amazing. Imagine people passing your article from one another via Twitter or Digg and receiving exponential traffic.
