Top Two Traffic Sources on the Internet

There are really only two main sources of traffic on the net today, which are primarily the social sites (Facebook, Digg, Hi5, MySpace, Reddit, etc) and the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN). There are other places online that offer traffic but just not as much as the main two.

Search engines are ranking sites based upon good content and links back to the site, while social sites are actually giving out tons of quality links. The conclusion that many have come to is that there is a lot to benefit SEO wise from these social communities. So you want to be joining as many of these communities as you can and building a profile about your business.

Social Media Strategies

First off joining the top 50 social and video and creating a profile is a great start (typically I tend to fill out my profile, put up a picture, post a blog, create a group and join niche related groups). Use your judgment based upon how you feel about that community (like it was a stock ) into deciding how much effort you want to put into it based upon the results and potential the platform has in the future. Personally rite now I am really leveraging communities such as YouTube, Facebook, Blogcatalog, Mybloglog, Twitter, MySpace and a couple other smaller places where I feel I'm getting the most value out of my effort ( this list can change week to week).

1) Take time and join smaller social sites and communities online! You never know which one is going to blow up like Reddit, Stumbleupon and Digg. This will give you a great boost of traffic if your already established in communities that all of a sudden hit a critical mass point.

2) Build Targeted Friends List - Add as many niche related friends as possible while staying within the sites guidelines, this is the first step to leveraging these social sites. Simply find related groups to what your niche is and add people within those groups, this way your building a list within the social networks and leveraging yourself at the same time. I want to also encourage you to join every group that's indirectly and directly related to your niche as this will put some of your leveraging on auto pilot as people will start adding you from the groups.

3) Provide Good Content so readers bookmark or subscribe to your site ( this is one of the most important parts )

SEO Strategies

SEO really revolves around providing good quality content and lots of links. If you can provide a ton of quality original content then you will be sure to collect alot of links.

1) How do you gain quality inbound links ? Well, there are many ways. The best strategy is: finding places online where you can put up content, and link back to your site after adding the content. Be sure to use a good keyword when backlinking to your own website. This was a mistake I made a lot, instead of squeezing in keywords I was simply putting "click here". Here are some examples of places you can post some content and get backlinks for yourself.

- Squidoo lens

- Blogger.com

- Goarticles.com

- Wordpress.com

- Hubpages.com

- Enzinarticles.com

- MySpace blog

Browse similar blogs related to your niche. This way, you can constantly be learning about your field and get links by commenting which is great for traffic as well. Don't just place comments like "nice post", typically you want to post something that is of substance and related to the post, this way your becoming more respected and will have more authority which leads to more visits to your backlink. Becoming apart of communities related to your niche is something that can help you along the way in more then one aspect.
